I met his wife in Judas' simulation and saved her life. We're friendly. Enough that they supported me in securing my current position with the city archives.
This world may not have a monarchy, but those with money and power remain very good to their friends.
Oh, power is gained through money and influence even in my world. One begets the other, and sometimes it's a repeated flow back and forth. Naturally, in my circumstances, that power could be ripped away or had a price to maintain.
Unless someone was smart.
As it is, I believe you'll support my endeavor. Through my talks to several Displaced, I've come to the conclusion that we'd be best served by utilizing our knowledge—and now ties—to Joseph Lynch to get him elected. We'd be foolish to back someone purely because she shares our political opinions, especially since she's otherwise inexperienced. A reckless action would show that we're not serious about our influence.
Lynch is someone I believe to be prepared for the job. He undoubtedly has people lined up, and while he's an uninspiring politician, he's remained in the race this far. There must be something to it. Plus, and more appealing to those who dislike the corporations of this world, he wasn't the chosen one to back at the beginning. Lynch should have been the more appealing option, and for some reason he wasn't.
This is all talking points. I was hoping you could work with me to persuade the others down this path, and perhaps even those at Red Wings who are better serving the masses.
An outsider and amateur would be easier for you to manipulate, yet you support the consummate professional who clearly has other connections to play. It sounds like you're interested in making things harder for yourself.
Regardless, you won't have to persuade me. If you wish me to pay him compliments, I'll do it. How effective it will be against a stone fortress of idealists remains to be seen.
Have you considered that I'm interested in having leverage, not controlling someone outright? There's a difference.
But you're right. The others are worrisome. I wouldn't say it's idealism, not inherently. They just like feeling like what they believe is true. Even if it's not. It's egotism.
I'm not interested in being in complete control. I didn't think I needed to spell that out any further.
[Though this is a side effect of going home and returning. He's far more squeamish about puppeting someone else these days. He'll still pester someone into moving, but he has always enjoyed seeing what he could motivate someone to do of their own free will. Now it's a matter of principle to ensure that happens.]

[Akechi loves explaining, but giving the basic lessons on democracy? Nah, he'll pass.]
Who are you feeling inclined to back?

[ more power for them equals more power for her, regardless of platform. she is not preoccupied with ideals. ]

[This is more than "we have dirt on Lynch that may not be dirt," so he's eager to hear what she has to say.]
